Welcome to Unit 3:
Your Inner Critic
Welcome to Unit 3 of the Champion Mindset Program! In this unit, we’re diving into the world of your Inner Critic, that relentless voice inside your head that often holds you back just as you’re ready to step out and think big.
This unit is all about shining a light on that nasty inner voice, understanding its motives, and starting the process of neutralizing its influence.
The Inner Critic is that little, and sometimes big, voice inside your head that may say things like:
"I have to have everything figured out before I begin."
"The whole idea seems too big. I get overwhelmed thinking about all the details."
"I don’t want to make a mistake, so it’s better to do nothing."
"Other people know how to do it better than I do."
This inner critic can be so toxic that it swings you from putting yourself down one moment to criticizing others the next. It can be a baffling and exhausting way to live, draining your energy as it takes control.
While the Inner Critic might seem toxic, it often acts with misguided intentions. It’s like an overprotective parent trying to shield you from pain, failure, or disappointment. However, by keeping you “safe,” it also keeps you stuck.
To fully understand your Inner Critic, a level of surrender is required. Some believe battling this voice is necessary, but others suggest that acceptance and even compassion are more effective. Facing your fears (ie, that vortex of discomfort) head-on allows your true, authentic self to shine through. Each time you overcome a fear or dismantle a limiting belief, you reclaim a part of your Inner Champion.
The critics that stay in the shadows, unnoticed and unchallenged, can grow stronger. But the good news is this: simply noticing your Inner Critic’s voice diminishes its power. When you shine a light on it, you take away its ability to work in secret.
This process of exploration isn’t about “killing” the Inner Critic; it’s about understanding and integrating it into your life. The voice of your Inner Critic doesn’t define you, it’s just one part of your perfectly imperfect self.
In this unit, we'll engage in 3 main activities:
Understanding how shame and perfectionism feed into the Inner Critic
Create a Biography of Your Inner Critic
Identifying your OLD story so you can move forward.
Some of life’s most rewarding and transformative moments come after we’ve faced struggles head-on. The same is true here. As you uncover the voice of your Inner Critic, you may find hidden gifts in its fears and challenges.
So let’s get started. Together, we’ll bring your Inner Critic into the light, giving it form and persona. By understanding it fully, you’ll pave the way to a freer, more authentic you.
Your journey toward a Champion Mindset continues here. Let’s go!
